UAE signs $100m agreement to finance 22,000 SMEs in Jordan
Rapid Intervention Brigade renamed after Mohammad Bin Zayed at ceremony in Amman
A$100 million agreement between the Khalifa Fund and Jordan’s Crown Prince Foundation to support 22,000 SMEs in Jordan was signed yesterday in Amman.
The agreement came during the visit of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, to Jordan yesterday. Shaikh Mohammad was accorded an official reception, a 21-gun salute was fired in his honour and the national anthems of the UAE and Jordan were played.
Shaikh Mohammad and King Abdullah held talks on the strong relations between the UAE and Jordan, as well as a host of regional and international issues and developments of common concern.
King Abdullah conferred upon Shaikh Mohammad the Order of Al Hussain Bin Ali in recognition of his efforts to strengthen and consolidate relations between the UAE and Jordan. Later, the Jordanian King and the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince attended an official reception held on the occasion of renaming the Rapid Intervention Brigade to Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Rapid Intervention Brigade.—WAM

Shaikh Mohammad and King Abdullah then held talks on the strong relations between the UAE and Jordan, as well as a host of regional and international ■ issues and developments of common concern.
The Abu Dhabi Crown Prince pointed out that Emirati-Jordanian relations are historic, with strong links between the two countries’ leaderships and peoples spanning many decades. He emphasised that these relations are founded on a wide base that allows for further strengthening these relations in coming phase, and opening them up to different avenues such as politics, the economy and security.
Shaikh Mohammad said that the crises and challenges facing the Arab region calls for continued consultations and coordination between brotherly countries.
He said that this would consolidate the foundations for Arab security and ensures the region’s stability. Shaikh Mohammad praised the role played by Jordan in supporting the region’s issues, particularly the Palestinian issue and the peace process.
He also hailed Jordan’s efforts in combating terrorism and terrorist organisations.
The Abu Dhabi Crown Prince pointed out that Jordan plays a pivotal and critical role in the issues facing the Middle East, thanks to the wise and balanced policies of King Abdullah and his efforts and work for supreme Arab interests.
