Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar on Sunday said that fund-raising campaign for Diamer-Basha and Mohmand dams has now become a global humanitarian movement and that it will be continued until completion of the dams for developing the country and secure the future generations.
He stated this while addressing a large gathering of British-Pakistanis at a fund-raising dinner here.
The gala dinner for the fundraising campaign in honour of the Chief Justice of Pakistan was organised by United Kingdom Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UKPCCI) in collaboration with Al-Khair Foundation UK.
The event was addressed, among others, by Chairman AlKhair Foundation Imran Qasim and General Secretary UKPCCI, Waheed Ur Rehman.
British-Pakistani councillors, diplomats, and Pakistani diaspora belonging to different walks of life attended the event.
This was the second fundraising event that was taking place in London for the building of dams in Pakistan.
Speaking on the occasion, Nisar thanked the organisers for holding the event.
He said “water is a blessing of Allah and essential for life while existence and prosperity of Pakistan is directly linked with the building of dams in the country”.
He said that it was heartening to note that an awareness campaign regarding the building of dams to overcome water shortages had been developed among the nation including the overseas Pakistanis, which has now become a global humanitarian movement for the cause of the country.
People, including overseas Pakistanis, were actively participating in his campaign of national importance and generously donating funds for this campaign, he remarked.
The CJP on the occasion vowed to build more dams on River Indus for the prosperity of the country and to overcome the looming water crisis.
Lauding contributions of overseas Pakistanis, he said that they had always stood up and helped their country in the hour of need, including during the earthquake.
He assured the Pakistani diaspora that steps would be taken to resolve their genuine issues.
In this regard, he said that a human rights cell had also been established in the Supreme court of Pakistan.
