On this day in 1991, Queen frontman Freddie Mercury’s funeral service took place at West London Crematorium, in the presence of friends and family, including singer Elton John and the remaining members of Queen. At Mercury’s request, his close friend and former wife Mary Austin buried his ashes at an undisclosed location. It is believed that Austin is the only one who knows where the ashes are until today.
