Realty dominates Dubai’s construction landscape

It will continue to make up 43% of overall project activity up to 2022

- Staff Report

Real estate development will continue to dominate the construction space in Dubai for the foreseeable future. The best estimates suggest this could represent 43 per cent of project works in the 2014-22 timeframe, based on data from Dubai Statistics Centre and Haver Analytics.

Dubai’s construction sector contributed 6.3 per cent to the local GDP in 2017, as work on “several government-led projects commenced during the year, including expansions to public transport and logistics infrastructure, in addition to building works for the Expo site in Dubai South,” the Dubai Chamber said in a statement.

“With Expo 2020 just two years away, the timing is ideal for foreign contractors to take advantage of new business opportunities and expand their footprint in this dynamic market,” said Hassan Al Hashemi, Director of International Relations at Dubai Chamber.

“The UAE’s commitment to Vision 2021 and diversification are key factors which are expected to maintain strong growth in the construction market over the next few years.”
