Inside the ‘Nickyanka’ love story
Jonas to ride in on a horse, while Chopra to wear a Ralph Lauren gown
As close family and celebrity friends jetted down to Jodhpur for the ‘Nickyanka’ wedding, further details of their fairytale courtship have now emerged. In a sit down interview with
Vogue US, Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas traced the path of their love story, even as the couple revealed intricate nuggets about their three-day wedding that is currently underway in Umaid Bhawan Palace.
WEDDING DETAILS
In the magazine interview, Chopra, 36, revealed they will have two wedding ceremonies at the venue, the first being a Christian ceremony on December 1 that will be officiated by Jonas’ father Paul Jonas, who is also a pastor.
The feature further stated Chopra will wear a custom Ralph Lauren gown, details of which have been kept under wraps.
Lauren has only ever designed wedding gowns for his daughter, his niece and his daughter-in-law in the past. Both, Chopra and Jonas, walked the red carpet together for the first time at the Met Gala in 2017.
On December 2, there will be a traditional Indian ritual that will see the couple take seven circles around a sacred fire, attributing to spending seven lifetimes together. Jonas, who revealed he dropped down on one knee the first time he saw Chopra at the Oscars, said he believed they were on their third lifetime together, possibly even their fourth.
Either way, he is quoted as saying: “I’ll take seven more.”
For this ceremony, Jonas is expected to ride in on a horse, dressed like a prince with a turban and a sword. A cocktail night saw Sanam Band perform. As the wedding festivities get underway, the Jonas family, including Joe, Kevin and the parents, have landed in Jodhpur, along with Game of Thrones star and Joe’s fiance Sophie Turner.
On Chopra’s side, her mother Madhu, brother Siddharth, cousin and actress Parineeti, have also arrived, along with YouTube sensation and comedian Lilly Singh, Salman Khan’s sister Arpita Khan Sharma and Bollywood make-up artist Mickey Contractor who is reported to be styling the bride for her wedding. Other celebrities reportedly invited for the wedding include talkshow host Kelly Ripa and Hollywood stars Dwayne Johnson and Lupita Nyong’o.
WHIRLWIND AFFAIR
In the Vogue interview, the couple revealed details of their courtship, which started at the Vanity Fair Oscars party last year. Jonas stated he took one look at Chopra and dropped down to one knee saying: ‘You’re real. Where have you been all my life?’
Jonas, 26, said he chased Chopra, going so far as to send a text to Graham Rogers, Chopra’s costar on the show Quantico.
The couple flirted over messages for months before meeting up for a drink ahead of the Met Gala, where Jonas met Chopra’s mother for the first time.
“We hung out for a couple of hours,” Chopra said. “He patted my back before he left.”
However, due to their schedules, the couple stated they didn’t meet up for a year before bumping into each other again on the Met Gala red carpet and there’s been no looking back.
Jonas proposed in Crete, with Chopra stating she thought this was a birthday trip.
“I got down on one knee, again, and I said: Will you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?” Jonas said in the interview. “She took about 45 seconds. Forty-five seconds of silence.” Jonas said. But he pressed on, saying: “I’m going to put this ring on your finger now unless you have any objections.” The had a formal engagement in August.
