Iranian troops fire on protesters
1978 - Troops opened fire on anti-Shah rioters in Tehran’s sprawling bazaar, leaving at least seven dead. An undetermined amber of others died in clashes in Isfahan, 250 miles south of the capital. Combat-ready troops chased rioters through the narrow alleys of the Tehran bazaar with automatic weapons blazing. The government reported 26 wounded in addition to the dead and more than 100 arrested.
