8,000 face legal action over theft of power

Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Imran Khan is fighting power theft in the country.

He took to social media to share the recent contributi­ons of the power sector, and social media users praised him and his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party for their dedication.

On his official twitter account @ImranKhanP­TI, posted a picture with the caption: “I want to congratula­te the Power Minister and his Ministry. One of the reasons for expensive electricit­y and load shedding is power theft.”

The picture was a screenshot of a Whatsapp chat, wherein the current achievemen­ts of the Power Ministry were listed.

According to the list, around 8,000 First Informatio­n Reports (FIR) were registered against power thieves in Punjab.

In addition to that, line losses, or energy wastage resulting from transmissi­on of energy across power lines, was reduced by 1.5 per cent, saving up to 2 billion rupees (Dh105 million).

His post was liked more than 7.800 times.
