10,000 staff recruited to improve railways
The launch of 10 new passenger trains, an increased number of freight trains, a 90 per cent improvement in punctuality and other positive steps were milestone achievements for the Ministry of Railways in the 100 days of the present government.
“This is all done due to the relentless efforts of the management of the Pakistan Railways under the leadership of Minister for Railways Shaikh Rashid [Ahmad],” an official in the Ministry of Railways said.
He said that Shaikh Rashid had announced that around 10 new passenger trains would be run on different routes during the initial 100 days and the department has successfully achieved the target even before the completion of the given time frame.
The performance report of the Ministry of Railways for 100 days had been presented to Prime Minister Imran Khan in which as many as 18 major initiatives were elaborated, he added.
The official said that in the report, Pakistan Railways had initiated the process for hiring around 10,000 new technical and non-technical staff members to improve the performance of the organisation.
