‘Protection of people’s rights is top priority’
Human rights minister Mazari says Kartarpur initiative taken on human rights grounds
Protection of the rights of the common man is the top priority of the government, Human Rights Minister Dr Shireen Mazari said on Monday in Islamabad.
She said that concrete steps have been taken through a comprehensive strategy to ensure the protection of rights of women, children, minorities and transgenders, adding that the constitution guarantees the protection of human rights, including the rights of minorities. She said that the Kartarpur initiative was taken solely on human rights grounds. She also mentioned the women inheritance rights law, transgender rights law, marriage and divorce among Hindu and Christians, A bill on missing persons and street children would soon be brought before parliament for legislation, she said.
In an interview with ‘Online’ Mazari said her Ministry has published its performance report during the first 100 days of the government, which include the legislation, international initiatives, and a review of National Action Plan.
