Perez wins second term as Venezuela president

1988 - Carlos Andres Perez, elected to a second term as president of Venezuela, is known for his active role in Central American affairs and his championin­g of Third World interests. In winning the election, he becomes the first Venezuelan to be elected to a second term as president. Perez, 66, known by his initials CAP, is associated in the public mind with the oil bonanza that coincided with the skyrocketi­ng of crude prices under his 1974-1979 presidency.
