Perez wins second term as Venezuela president
1988 - Carlos Andres Perez, elected to a second term as president of Venezuela, is known for his active role in Central American affairs and his championing of Third World interests. In winning the election, he becomes the first Venezuelan to be elected to a second term as president. Perez, 66, known by his initials CAP, is associated in the public mind with the oil bonanza that coincided with the skyrocketing of crude prices under his 1974-1979 presidency.
