CM meets family of slain inspector
Family to get Rs5m aid, government to pay for education of both children
Three days after police inspector Subodh Kumar Singh was murdered in a mob frenzy over cow slaughter rumours in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath yesterday met his family extending several relief measures to them.
Inspector Singh’s wife, two sons and a sister travelled from Etah to CM’s residence in capital Lucknow for the meeting which took place after massive criticism that Adityanath focused more on cow slaughter than the murder of inspector.
Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) OP Singh, who was present in the meeting, informed media that the family of the dead was being provided with a financial aid of Rs5 million.
“Besides, some bank loan was also taken by the family for the education of the children and the government will take care of the same. We will be providing assistance to both the children for coaching. The wife of the deceased will also be provided with an extraordinary pension,” Singh said.
Later, state minister Atul Garg said a college will also be named after Singh to “recognise and remember his courage.”
The state government also announced that Jaithari-Kuraoli Road leading to the village of the inspector in Etah would be renamed to ‘Shri Subodh Kumar Singh Shahid Marg.’
“We met the Chief Minister and he has assured us that we will get justice. I plead with the society, people of my generation, please don’t get into cow politics. My father used to say above all, be a good citizen,” slain inspector’s son Shrey Pratap Singh said after the meeting.
He said people should stop violence in the name of Hindus and Muslims.
“Not just the CM, I would appeal to the entire country, please stop Hindu-Muslim violence. People get violent at the slightest provocation. People should understand and think, that they are bound by the law,” he said.
Demand for memorial
The family members of inspector Singh had demanded that he be declared a martyr and a memorial be created.
Adityanath also sought action against those involved in cow slaughter and called the “incident” part of a big conspiracy.
On Wednesday, the inspector’s sister had alleged that the CM was all about “cows, cows, cows” but failed to take action against the killers of her brother.
Singh had died after the mob ran riot over alleged cow slaughter on Monday. According to the post mortem report, he was killed by a bullet in the head and suffered wounds from blunt objects.
Hindu fundamentalist outfit Bajrang Dal’s local leader, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) youth wing member and a nationalist body Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) activist have been booked for the mob violence.
Bajrang Dal’s Yogesh Raj, who has been made the number one accused for the riot in Bulandshahr, remains missing.
