Platform for Indians launched in capital
Non-profit body aims to enhance awareness among Indian workers
The Platform for Indians to Operate, Cooperate, Collaborate, and Invest (PIOCCI), a non-profit organisation body, was inaugurated in Abu Dhabi last week.
The organisation was inaugurated by Sushma Swaraj, India’s Minister of External Affairs. The event was also attended by Navdeep Suri, Ambassador of India to the UAE, and Vipul, Consul General of India in Dubai.
PIOCCI’s objective is to enhance awareness among Indian workers, to hire agencies to eliminate the exploitation of workers, and build mechanisms to address problems of the Indian professionals ■ in the small and medium enterprise sector. It also aims to boost economic ties between the UAE and India.
“This is an important initiative for the well-being and welfare of the Indian immigrants residing in the GCC region. We are pleased to be a part of such a great drive and assure that this platform would focus on safe and skilled immigration of the workers from India,” Swaraj said.
“My advice to members and the body of this platform is to assist in aggregating the skills demand needed by the region to the National Skilling Development Council who would ensure that the technicians are appropriately trained and oriented before they undertake employment in the region.”
