In a major step to speed up passenger flow at Dubai Airports, a second smart tunnel will enable travellers to complete passport control procedures in a few seconds.

Launched by General Directorate of Residence and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai (GDRFA) at Terminal 3 in October, the pilot phase of the new service gave passengers holding first and business class tickets a more efficient passport control experience at departure.

Brigadier Talal Ahmad Al Shanqiti, assistant directorgeneral of Airport Passport Sector in GDRFA-Dubai, said that they will have a second smart tunnel at Terminal 3 very soon.

He said 2,000 passengers used the smart tunnel so far in the departures lounge.

Walk through

Travellers can walk through the biometric recognition system without having their passports stamped thanks to the Artificial Intelligence equipped tunnel which includes all the data of passengers.

Travellers, however, must take their passport with them when they pass through the tunnel the first time to allow the system to capture necessary data for later use.
