Agroup of eunuchs won widespread applause after saving a teenage girl sold to human traffickers.

The 15-year-old resident of Bihar’s Nawada district had been on a train headed for Pune when she overheard the man she was travelling with informing someone that she had been sold for Rs600,000 to a pimp in Pune.

She escaped when the train pulled into Allahabad railway station, where she met the eunuchs and informed them of her situation.

The eunuchs accompanied the frantic teen to Moghulsarai railway station (now renamed Pt Deendayal Upadhyaya station) and dropped her off at the home of her married cousin in Bare village, Kaimur district.

The cousin accompanied the girl to the local police station, where investigations revealed that the teenager’s parents had sold her to a broker for Rs150,000.

“We have recorded her statements and forwarded the matter to her home district in Nawada for further action,” Ajay Prasad, the sub-divisional police official for Kaimur, told the media yesterday.

“The police have registered the case against her parents and two others. All are absconding.”
