Scholarships announced to help children of miners
Interest-free loans to help boost province’s mineral sector
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government announced plans to award scholarships to children of mine workers studying at the province’s top colleges and universities, enabling them to continue their studies in the absence of financial constraints.
The children of miners enrolled at medical colleges, engineering universities and agriculture universities, as well as those training to be vets will get merit scholarships as per Prime Minister Imran Khan’s vision to provide quality education for all.
Children of miners studying art, architecture, finance, and textile courses at other professional colleges and institutes in the country will also get scholarships, officials in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Mines and Mineral Department told journalists yesterday.
Apart from student scholarships, interest-free loans will be given to mining lease holders for the mechanisation of marble and granite mining activities in the province.
Plan chalked out
The government has chalked out a plan to strengthen the mines and mineral sector with special focus on the provision of interest-free loans to miners for the purchase of modern machinery necessary for exploration and raising production, as well as the provision of quality education and health services to their families and children at top institutes in the province.
The department has embarked on a multi-faceted approach to enhance the skills of miners for the purpose of exploration, production, marketing and utilisation of the latest excavation machinery to improve efficiency during the search and purification processes.
