Al Habtoor wants to see more Arab tennis players on Tour

- BY ALARIC GOMES Chief Reporter

The chairman of the Habtoor Group has thrown an open invitation to the entire Arab world to produce at least a handful of tennis players in the near future. Speaking at the opening of the 21st Al Habtoor Tennis Challenge, Khalaf Al Habtoor said that it would be a dream for him personally to have at least a few players from the Gulf and Arab regions playing either on the ATP or WTA Tours. “Unfortunately, this is a distant dream at the moment,” Al Habtoor said.

“I have personally invested a lot over the years with the sole aim of having at least a few players on the men’s and women’s tours. But I think we need magic to make this happen.”

“But sadly, in the UAE we can’t find anybody who has the interest to pursue tennis as a career either in the men’s or the women’s and that’s sad,” Al Habtoor said.
