Winter activities planned for school kids

The Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (Adek) has launched a series of winter activities to provide constructi­ve learning and entertainm­ent for children.

One of the three programmes will be open to 1,000 students to instill national pride in students, and to enhance their awareness of Emirati culture.

Titled Heritage, Culture and Science at Community Schools, it will run for three weeks from December 23 to January 10.

The second activity, the Sir Bani Yas Challenge, will run from December 16 to 20. It will be geared towards high school students and includes scientific, environmen­tal, sports and cultural activities.

The Future Leaders Journey will last for 10 days from December 21 to 30 for 100 high school students. It will include field visits to historic and cultural sites, as well as competitio­ns and workshops.

Holiday

The winter break for UAE schools begins on Sunday, with schools closing for two to four weeks, depending on their curriculum.

The winter break comes after the first term for most UAE schools, which begins in September. For Indian schools, it comes after their second term.
