US and Europe sign Gatt accord

1993 - US and the European Community cleared the way for a long-awaited world trade treaty. The announcement was made at a news conference by the exhausted but clearly relieved top trade officials of the world’s most powerful trading powers, Mickey Kantor of the US (above left) and Sir Leon Brittan (above right) of EC. “I think it’s obvious I’m delighted to announce the US has reached a comprehensive agreement with the EC,” Kantor declared.
