Nawaz has no links with sons’ business, court told
Accountability Court adjourns hearing in graft reference against Sharif family
Acourt yesterday adjourned its hearing into the Flagship Investment reference against the family of former Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif to December 17.
Giving final arguments, Sharif’s lawyer Khawaja Haris told the Accountability Court that his client was accused of being the real owner of offshore companies, yet the charge sheet read that the former PM’s sons were the ‘benamidar’ (ostensible owners) of those assets.
Haris presented documents for three more companies associated with the property of Sharif’s sons in Britain and told the court documents related to other companies would be produced later.
He said it was the business of Sharif’s sons to purchase property, adding that his client had submitted a request to the UK Land Registry to obtain the record. He said Sharif had never acknowledged any connection with his sons’ businesses before the National Assembly or at any other forum.
Sharif also appeared before the court.
