Mamata eyes tea tourism to boost incomes

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee yesterday said her government would consider tea tourism to benefit the state’s tea plantation­s.

“Today is Internatio­nal Tea Day. In #Bangla, we have allocated more than Rs 1,000 crore [Rs10 billion or Dh510 million] for the welfare of tea garden workers since 2011. Tea tourism is also under our considerat­ion,” Banerjee tweeted.

She said the government had been providing rice at Rs2 per kg, as well as free electricit­y and water to tea the gardens. (IANS)
