Mamata eyes tea tourism to boost incomes
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee yesterday said her government would consider tea tourism to benefit the state’s tea plantations.
“Today is International Tea Day. In #Bangla, we have allocated more than Rs 1,000 crore [Rs10 billion or Dh510 million] for the welfare of tea garden workers since 2011. Tea tourism is also under our consideration,” Banerjee tweeted.
She said the government had been providing rice at Rs2 per kg, as well as free electricity and water to tea the gardens. (IANS)
