Post-mortem: Hindu medical student Nimrita raped and killed
Report says that male DNA was found on her body and she was strangled with a ‘rope’
The final post mortem report of Pakistani Hindu medical student Nimrita Kumari has sent shock waves among the public.
According to the latest report issued by the Chandka medical College Hospital (CMCH) on Wednesday, Nimrita was sexually abused before being murdered in her hostel room.
Nimrita Kumari, a BDS final-year student at Bibi Aseefa Dental College (BADC), was found dead in her hostel room in Larkana city in Sindh Province on September 16. The report says that she was sexually assaulted before her death and died due to asphyxiation.
The Police Surgeon Dr Qarar Ahmad Abbasi said that according to the final post-mortem report, the Larkana student was “murdered by strangulation after rape,” reported Dawn news.
Dr Abbasi, quoting an observation in the report, said that it has to be ascertained through circumstantial evidence whether Nimrita was strangulated or hanged.
He said that the post-mortem report noted that the wound marks on the victim’s neck were “narrower in width”, which, he said, clearly showed that the wound wasn’t caused by a dupatta; instead, it was caused by a “rope-like thing or material”.
“Final post-mortem report didn’t establish [the] initial theory of suicide,” Dr Abbasi said. Nimrita’s death and subsequent forensic report declaring her death as suicide, sparked anger among people, especially her family members who refused to accept he post-mortem report calling for a judicial inquiry.
Two arrested
Following protest, a court ordered a judicial inquiry and another post mortem by a team of forensic experts.
Dr Abbasi added that the male DNA had confirmed that she was raped.
He said that a high-level forensic experts board from all over Sindh may be constituted to rectify some of the flaws in the post-mortem and crime scene investigation.
The latest autopsy report has proved the claim of Dr Vishal, the deceased’s brother, who insisted that his sister had been killed as she was neither depressed nor the sort who would end her own life.
Police have already arrested two students on suspicion in the alleged murder case of Kumari, a BDS student.
The murder probe, which is being supervised by the Larkana District & Sessions Judge on the directives of Sindh High Court (SHC), is still under way.
