Tripoli’s Mitiga airport reopens after 3 hours
LNA tells UN it can’t guarantee safety of flights to the facility
The only functioning airport in Libya’s capital Tripoli reopened yesterday following more than three hours of closure after missiles were fired towards it, causing chaos and fear among passengers, authorities said.
It was not clear whether any projectiles struck the airport itself or its runways.
Earlier, Libya National Army spokesman Ahmad Mesmari told reporters in Benghazi that the UN would have to use other airports such as Misrata because it could not guarantee the safety of flights into Mitiga airport as Turkey was using it as a base.
After the destruction of Tripoli International Airport, Mitiga became the only international airport in Tripoli.
On Wednesday, the UN Security Council passed its first resolution on Libya since the Tripoli war broke out, demanding that all parties commit to a lasting ceasefire.
