WHAT THEY SAY
● UAE residents pick their top card feature
Cashback
I prefer credit cards that provide cashback on purchases such as supermarkets, restaurants, insurance premiums and utilities, which are recurring items. I prefer cashback more than other benefits because I feel cash is king, and it is better to have the advantage now rather than later. However, many cards have monthly caps on cashback, so I read the fine print and have a card that offers generous cashback even though it may require higher spending. Priya Viren Bhatia,
Indian, Entrepreneur
Consolidate debts
I use a credit card because it helps me to take control of my finances and consolidate my debts. It reminds me to pay bills on time and build a good credit history, which gives me a higher chance of being sanctioned a loan at a low-interest rate. The limit on my card helps me to control my monthly expenses. I also avail discounts at cinema halls, restaurants, and get deals such as free valet parking at some locations. The points that I earn, I exchange against shopping vouchers. Mohannad Al Hariri,
Syrian, Assistant Manager
Savings
For about five years now, we started using one credit card for all purchases — from groceries to bill payments, house rent and purchases abroad. I hardly pay anything by cash. By doing so, everything is recorded. It gives me statistics and enables me to keep track of my expenses. I also get most airport lounges across the world. Finally, I could redeem air tickets for our house help’s yearly vacation. That is a real saving. Cherrie S. Lobo,
Filipino, Business Support Manager
Air miles
To be honest, I hardly walk around with cash in my wallet any more. I use the credit card to pay for all expenses that I usually have including payment of school fees, petrol and supermarket spends, among other purchases because I get to earn Skywards Miles on the card. It really works for me. Last year, the accumulated miles helped me purchase a business class ticket for my son, who lives in the UK, to spend Christmas with us in Dubai.
