Mosques in Makkah open tomorrow

SAUDI ARABIA CASES TOP 150,000 AS 45 DEATHS TAKE TOLL TO 1,184

More than 1,500 mosques are due to reopen in Makkah tomorrow after being closed for three months.

Saudi Arabia yesterday crossed 150,000 cases. The kingdom reported 4,301 new cases, taking the tally to 150,292, while 1,849 patients recovered and 45 died. This brings total recoveries to 95,764 and the toll to 1,184.

Riyadh had the most new cases (1,091), followed by Hafouf (430) and Jeddah (384), Makkah (305), Taif (201) and Qataif (180).

On Sunday, nearly 1,560 mosques in Makkah will reopen for worshipper­s starting from the Fajr prayer. Mosques have been prepared by putting in place precaution­s that include the use of personal prayer rugs, and keeping distancing among worshipper­s.

Kuwait shortens curfew

Kuwait, which will shorten a 12-hour health curfew by two hours from tomorrow, yesterday reported 604 new cases, taking the total to 38,678. Five more deaths took the death toll to to 313.

Oman yesterday confirmed 852 new cases, raising to 27,670 the overall infections, the Omani news agency ONA said.

The newly diagnosed cases include 368 Omanis and 484 foreign residents, the Health Ministry said.

The ministry also reported six more deaths over the previous day, taking Oman’s total of such fatalities to 125.

The country’s overall recoveries has increased by 710 cases to reach 13,974, the ministry said.

Seven more people have died in Qatar while 1,021 have been infected with the novel coronaviru­s, taking the tally of deaths to 93 and the overall confirmed cases to 85,462.
