Saudi Arabia cases exceed 200,000

Kingdom reports 4,193 new infections and 50 more deaths

The number of Covid-19 cases in Saudi Arabia exceeded 200,000 yesterday as the kingdom reported 4,193 new infections and 50 more deaths.

This took total infections to 201,801 while the toll rose to 1,802. The kingdom also reported 2,945 more recoveries, taking the total to 140,614.

The country of 30 million people recorded its first infection on March 2. It topped 50,000 cases on May 16.

154 more deaths in Iran

Iran reported 154 more deaths yesterday, taking the toll to 11,260. Another 2,566 infections took the total to 235,429. Fatalities had dropped slightly after hitting the highest single-day toll of 162 on Monday, but have risen in the past two days.

Cases rising in Oman

Oman yesterday reported 1,374 new cases and five more deaths, taking overall infections to 43,929 and the toll to 193. The upward trend over the past six weeks prompted Health Minister Dr Ahmad Bin Mohammad Al Saeedi to call for “collective responsibi­lity”.

Oman also said that no fines are being levied on expired tourist visas until July 15.

Meanwhile, Kuwait recorded 813 new cases, taking the total to 48,672. Fatalities rose to 360 with one more death.

Qatar reported 756 new cases, taking the total to 98,653.

Three more deaths took the toll to 121 while 1,986 recoveries took the total to 88,583.

Bahrain reported 423 new cases, taking the total to 27,837, while 635 more recoveries brought the total to 22,583. This means that over 81 per cent of cases have recovered. Currently, there are 5,160 active cases in Bahrain.
