Mohammad chairs first physical meeting since Cabinet reshuffle
His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid yesterday chaired the first physical meeting of the new Cabinet in Abu Dhabi after a series of remote meetings. “We approved 33 initiatives presented to us by the new economy minister and established a committee to follow up on implementation,” Shaikh Mohammad said.
The UAE Cabinet yesterday approved a package of 33 initiatives to support economic sector and stimulate business activity until 2021.
The package was approved during the first Cabinet meeting held in person at the Presidential Palace after a series of virtual meetings since March due to the pandemic.
The meeting, chaired by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, is also the first after the Cabinet reshuffle last month that saw merger of ministries and departments and appointment of new ministers in a drive to create a more agile government.
Nuclear plant hailed
Shaikh Mohammad began the meeting by hailing the UAE’s success in operating the first peaceful nuclear reactor in the Arab world and the successful launch of Hope Probe, confirming that both achievements are another landmarks success led by UAE youth.
The new initiatives were proposed by the new Minister of Economy, Abdullah Bin Touq Al Merri, who will will head a new committee that will monitor the implementation of all 33 initiatives.
Importance of stimulus
Shaikh Mohammad highlighted the importance of the economic dossier.

He also announced that UAE Cabinet meetings will continue from August rather than from September. “We will continue Cabinet meetings during this summer despite exceptional circumstances,” Shaikh Mohammad said.
Other decisions
The Cabinet approved the new structure of the Ministerial Development Council, establishment of Union’s General Budget Committee and the new structure of the Education Council.
“Our projects will continue. Our excellence is determined by our ongoing activity. Our achievements will continue as our teams will never stop working,” Shaikh Mohammad said.
The Cabinet approved the appointment of Dr Sultan Al Jaber as Chairman of Emirates Development Bank, and Sarah Al Amiri as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the UAE Space Agency, among other appointments.
Shaikh Mohammad said, “We discussed the government’s structure and the most important new changes to keep pace with the national priorities for the next stage.”
