Mohammad chairs first physical meeting since Cabinet reshuffle

His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid yesterday chaired the first physical meeting of the new Cabinet in Abu Dhabi after a series of remote meetings. “We approved 33 initiative­s presented to us by the new economy minister and establishe­d a committee to follow up on implementa­tion,” Shaikh Mohammad said.

The UAE Cabinet yesterday approved a package of 33 initiative­s to support economic sector and stimulate business activity until 2021.

The package was approved during the first Cabinet meeting held in person at the Presidenti­al Palace after a series of virtual meetings since March due to the pandemic.

The meeting, chaired by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, is also the first after the Cabinet reshuffle last month that saw merger of ministries and department­s and appointmen­t of new ministers in a drive to create a more agile government.

Nuclear plant hailed

Shaikh Mohammad began the meeting by hailing the UAE’s success in operating the first peaceful nuclear reactor in the Arab world and the successful launch of Hope Probe, confirming that both achievemen­ts are another landmarks success led by UAE youth.

The new initiative­s were proposed by the new Minister of Economy, Abdullah Bin Touq Al Merri, who will will head a new committee that will monitor the implementa­tion of all 33 initiative­s.

Importance of stimulus

Shaikh Mohammad highlighte­d the importance of the economic dossier.

“We have approved a flexible package and a general plan of 33 initiative­s submitted by the new minister to support economic sectors and stimulate activities and businesses until the end of 2021.

and stimulates them with new ideas.” he said

Shaikh Mohammad also stressed the importance of flexibilit­y in decision-making. “During crises, it is important to be faster, more active and smarter than others. The winner is the one who clinches the opportunit­y in exceptiona­l circumstan­ces,” he said.

He also announced that UAE Cabinet meetings will continue from August rather than from September. “We will continue Cabinet meetings during this summer despite exceptiona­l circumstan­ces,” Shaikh Mohammad said.

Other decisions

The Cabinet approved the new structure of the Ministeria­l Developmen­t Council, establishm­ent of Union’s General Budget Committee and the new structure of the Education Council.

“Our projects will continue. Our excellence is determined by our ongoing activity. Our achievemen­ts will continue as our teams will never stop working,” Shaikh Mohammad said.

The Cabinet approved the appointmen­t of Dr Sultan Al Jaber as Chairman of Emirates Developmen­t Bank, and Sarah Al Amiri as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the UAE Space Agency, among other appointmen­ts.

Shaikh Mohammad said, “We discussed the government’s structure and the most important new changes to keep pace with the national priorities for the next stage.”
