PROTOCOLS IN DUBAI PRIVATE SCHOOLS

-

Last month, Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) released ‘Protocols for the Reopening of Private Schools in Dubai’. Here are some key guidelines:

What if a child/teacher/staff member shows symptoms of Covid-19 while at school?

He/she must be immediately isolated and the parent/guardian must be notified immediately. The patient should be referred to hospital and not return to school until a negative PCR test result. If the result is positive, all those who have been in contact with an affected person must be in quarantine for 14 days — counting from the day of the positive PCR test, or from the day of the onset of symptoms, if ascertained by the clinician.

Will school facilities operate normally?

■ Showers and changing rooms will be inaccessible.

■ Vending machines, pantries and pre-packed food and beverages are allowed under strict guidelines (only disposable containers, frequent sanitisation of machines and pantry items and maintaining two metres of distancing between the tables). No buffets or gatherings are allowed.

What about physical education classes?

Physical education classes should focus on sports that do not require physical interaction; and school swimming pools will remain closed until further notice. On the days when students have PE lessons, they must come to school in their full PE uniform.

Disinfection of stationery

Students and teachers must bring their own exclusive stationary items, devices or gadgets (i.e. laptops, tablets, headphones, etc.). Student should not share their stationery. If pupils need a supply of stationery, it should be done by the teacher via proper disinfection.

Designated areas for parents in schools

Parents can drop off and pick up children from designated areas within a timeframe of 10 minutes to avoid crowding. Family members and visitors will not have access to the rest of the school facility.

School buses to operate at half their capacity

Schools must operate their buses at half their seating capacity and have marks on the seats for seating guidance. Anyone boarding the bus should undergo temperature screening. Anyone with a temperature greater than or equal to 37.5 degrees Celsius should not be allowed on the bus.
