Coronavirus infections cross 5 million mark
Around 4 million people are under surveillance
India reported 82,376 new coronavirus infections for its lowest daily jump in a week, the health ministry said yesterday. The world’s second-most populous nation crossed the milestone of 5 million cases yesterday, as its tally stands now at 5.009 million. The death toll crossed 82,000 yesterday, swelled by 1,267 in the last 24 hours, the ministry added.
Around four million people have been kept under surveillance as a part of the contacttracing efforts in the country and 54 million samples were tested for coronavirus till September 10, Union minister Ashwini Choubey told the Rajya Sabha yesterday.
