Mumbai won their third title through a nailbiting final in 2017. The season’s third match between Gujarat Lions and Kolkata Knight Riders was a sensational one with Kolkata earning the honour of successfully chasing the highest total without losing a wicket in a T20 match. Gujarat posted 183 for 4 but Kolkata won in just 14.5 overs thanks to Chris Lynn’s unbeaten 93 and Gautam Gambhir’s unconquered 76. The final ended in a thrilling finish with Mumbai Indians winning by one run over Pune to become the first team to win the title thrice.

Chennai returns and wins a third time too

The 2018 Indian Premier League saw the return of the Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals after serving their two-year suspension for the involvement of their owners in the 2013 betting scandal. Chennai too went on to win the title for the third time defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by 8 wickets in the final. Shane Watson emerged the hero by cracking a brilliant unbeaten 117.

Hyderabad captain Kane Williamson displayed his form piling up 735 runs from 17 matches. Afghan offspinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman became the youngest cricketer to play in the IPL. He was only 17 years and 11 days when he played for Kings XI Punjab.

Mumbai’s fourth title, Raina’s 5000 and ‘Mankading’

In the finals of the 2019 edition of the IPL, Mumbai Indians once again displayed their might to win the title for the fourth time through another thrilling final, beating Chennai Super Kings by one run. In the first match of the edition between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore, Chennai’s Suresh Raina became the first batsman to score 5000 runs in the IPL. In the fourth match between Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals, Jos Butler of Rajasthan was dismissed through ‘Mankading’ [a method of run-out named after legendary Indian bowler Vinoo Mankad] by Punjab captain R. Ashwin.
