Emirati, expats strike shopping festival gold

Each one of five winners get 250 grams of yellowmeta­l

Emirati Yousuf Ali Al Maadi; Indians Christina A. S, and Irfan Khan, and Filipinos Ben Samuel and Imelda Duron welcomed 2021 with good fortune after winning 250 grams of gold each at the Dubai Shopping Festival ( DSF).

The Emirati and four Dubai residents won at Dubai Gold & Jewellery Group ( DGJG) grand raffle, where winners each receive 250 grams of gold out of a total prize giveaway of 25kg.

‘ Thought itwas a prank’

Al Maadi said: “At first I thought it was a prank. It only started sinking in after wewent and received the prize. I never imagined that I’d win! I have exchanged the gold for cash and started a savings account.”

Christina said: “Itwas such a relief to win this amazing prize at the end of an unpredicta­ble year. I entered the raffle with my family and am so happy I was the one towin!”

‘ Iwas in shock’

Khanadded: “This is the first time in my life I won something. Dubai is a very generous city that has always been hosting raffles and competitio­ns, and after being here for three years I was in shock when I won. I’m over whelmed with gratitude.”

Samuel has shared his blessings with family and friends. “I have spent almost half the money giving back to friends and family who lost their jobs because of the pandemic; and I bought so many things for people in need,” he said.

Duron also shared her winnings with her family back in the Philippine­s.

She added that 2021 really started on a happy note, noting: “Times have been very challengin­g for everyone and this made me feel that 2021 is my year!”
