Dubai unveils Festival City plan

2001 - General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and UAE Defence Minister, who inaugurated the Dubai Shopping Festival, announced that a new Dubai Festival City would soon take shape near the Garhoud Bridge. The City would be the biggest tourism and commercial project of its kind in the Middle East. It would be built by the Abdullah Al Futtaim Group.
