Qalandars score improbable win

Wiese and Afridi star for Lahore against Karachi in Pakistan Super League

- Staff Report

David Wiese’s 15-minute blitzkrieg turned the match on its head to give Lahore Qalandars an improbable six-wicket win against Karachi Kings in the 11th match of the HBL Pakistan Super League at National Stadium in Karachi yesterday.

Needing 37 runs off 16 balls, Wiese walked at the fall of a well set Fakhar Zaman (83).

However, Karachi dismissing the left-handed opener did not turn out to be a wis move with the South African all-rounder scoring 31 not out off nine balls including three fours and as many sixes to take Lahore home with four balls to spare.

Den Bunk remained unbeaten on 57.

Earlier, left-arm pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi produced a brilliant bowling spell for Lahore.

Batting first, Karachi Kings posted a decent total of 186 for nine in 20 overs, thanks to impressive knocks of Sharjeel Khan (64 off 29 balls), Mohammad Nabi (57 off 35 balls), Daniel Christian (27 off 14 balls) and Waqas Maqsood (12 off 11 balls).

No other Karachi Kings batsman could cross the double figures due to Afridi, who secured three wickets for 27 runs to grab the man-of-thematch award. He was assisted well by Samit Patel, Haris Rauf, Ahmed Daniyal and David Wiese, as they all got one wickets apiece for Qalandars.
