Paul Bettany loves Vision
Disney+ series ‘WandaVision’ came to a close this weekend on OSN
Disney+ and Marvel’s first TV series WandaVision came to a close this weekend and while it left many with more questions than answers, nobody can deny that this ‘little’ project took fans and critics alike by pleasant surprise, proving to be an instant hit.
Paul Bettany, who plays the Vision of WandaVision, spoke about his role in a freewheeling conversation with Esquire, and the actor confirmed he’s in for the long haul as long as Vision is concerned.
“I love Vision. Yes, I’m in,” he answered to the question, “Are you going to play Vision forever?”.
Spoilers ahead for those who haven’t caught the WandaVision finale yet. In the final episode, we meet a second Vision, the S.W.O.R.D.-reconstructed version who flew off to an ambiguous future, will full consciousness of his life before he was brutally murdered by Thanos. So it stands to reason that we’ve not seen the last of this character, although it’s still unclear when and where we’ll see him.
Bettany started off his MCU career playing the voice of JARVIS, Tony Stark’s AI in 2008’s Iron Man. “[Director] Jon Favreau rung me up and said he was looking for somebody without any personality whatsoever to play the disembodied voice of a computer, and he thought of me.” Bettany says. “I just thought, ‘Such a charming, generous pitch. I’m in’.”
And it’s not until 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron that Bettany makes his on-screen appearance as Vision, a combination of man and machine, but unlike anything we’ve seen before of the kind.
Describing Vision’s personality, Bettany said in the interview, “At his core, Vision is decent. Uncluttered, ego-less, timeless... Therefore, [he] loves in a very clear and uncluttered and uncomplicated way.”
All episodes of WandaVision are now available to stream on OSN.
