Qureshi thanks UAE for deferring $2b loan payment
ABDULLAH DISCUSSES BILATERAL TIES WITH PAKISTAN FOREIGN MINISTER
Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has thanked the UAE for rolling over payment of a $2 billion loan.
The Pakistan Foreign Office made the announcement after Qureshi’s meeting with Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Coopertion, in Abu Dhabi on Monday.
“Pronouncing the UAE’s decision to roll over the $2 billion deposit by the Abu Dhabi Fund, Foreign Minister Abdullah affirmed the UAE’s commitment to extend every possible support to Pakistan. Foreign Minister Qureshi thanked his counterpart, underscoring that the decision reflected the warm and brotherly ties between the two countries,” the Foreign Office said in a statement.
According to WAM, Shaikh Abdullah and Qureshi discussed bilateral cooperation to stem the fallout of the pandemic and ways to ensure that all countries can access vaccines.
They also reviewed details of Pakistan’s participation in Expo 2020 Dubai, which starts in October. Shaikh Abdullah congratulated Qureshi on the completion of the Pakistan pavilion, wishing his country successful
participation in the event. Qureshi reiterated his invitation to Shaikh Abdullah to visit Pakistan, who accepted it.
Qureshi left for Pakistan early yesterday after a three-day visit to the UAE. In addition to his official engagements, he met the Pakistan Business Council, members of the community, including investors and businessmen, in Dubai and interacted with local and international media in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
He also visited the Expo site and inspected the Pakistan Pavilion being set up there.
