127.6M doses given nationwide

Covishield, from the Oxford/AstraZenec­a stable, comprises over 90 per cent of the 127.6 million Covid-19 vaccines administer­ed across the country so far, according to government data yesterday.

Of this, 15 states and union territorie­s have only given Covishield, being manufactur­ed by the Pune-based Serum Institute of India. The other vaccine being administer­ed in India is the indigenous Covaxin from Bharat Biotech in Hyderabad. Giving details, of the 127,605,870 jabs administer­ed till now, 116,065,107 are of Covishield while 11,540,763 are of Covaxin.

Kato said: “In order to take all possible coronaviru­s countermea­sures, it has been decided Prime Minister Suga won’t take any overseas trips during the Golden Week.” Japan and India are members of a group known as the Quad, which also includes the United States and Australia.
