20,000 TREES TURN EXPO ROUTE GREEN

Pact to enhance partnershi­p in policing and security areas

Dubai Municipali­ty has completed landscapin­g projects worth Dh205 million across all the roads and main intersecti­ons leading to the Expo 2020 Dubai site.

More than 20,000 trees were used to form a green belt along the roadsides, and over four million seedlings were planted around the roads leading to the venue. Approximat­ely two million seedlings were also planted at the Expo 2020 Dubai site.

Dawood Al Hajri, director-general of Dubai Municipali­ty, said: “Our plan is to expand our greenery drive to cover all the areas in Dubai including open spaces, roads and public parks.” The projects cover two million square metres and includes the extension of Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road, Expo Street and Shaikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Street in the direction of the Expo site.

AMemorandu­m of Understand­ing (MoU) was signed between the Dubai Police General Command and Netherland­s Police to enhance “cooperatio­n and collaborat­ion in various policing and security areas”.

The MoU was signed by Major General Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-inChief for Criminal Investigat­ion Affairs at Dubai Police, and Hanneke Ekelmans, Chief Constable and member of the Force Command of the Netherland­s Police. Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Merri, Commanderi­n-Chief of Dubai Police, and Lody Embrechts, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherland­s to the UAE, witnessed the signing ceremony in the presence of senior officials from both sides.

Strong bond of cooperatio­n

Lt Gen Al Merri said: “The MoU reflects the mutual eagerness to strengthen­ing the bonds of cooperatio­n between the two forces. It creates a distinguis­hed partnershi­p in common areas of interest. The MoU also is within the framework of sharing knowledge and experience between both sides, as well as enhancing internatio­nal cooperatio­n in the fields of security and policing.”
