Kuwait resumes India commercial flights

Visitor, family, tourism and commercial visas to resume soon

- CAIRO

Kuwait will resume direct commercial flights with India today, the Gulf country’s civil aviation authority said yesterday.

The decision to resume flights was first announced last month but without giving a timeframe for implementation.

Kuwait is expected to resume issuing visitor, family, commercial and tourism visas nearly a year and a half since the Ministry of Interior halted issuing visit visas. While the Cabinet of Ministers is yet to issue an official decision, it is likely that the Ministry of Interior will resume issuing visit visas starting next month.

70% of population has got both vaccine doses

A member of the Covid-19 committee at the Ministry of Health, Dr Khalid Al Saeed, said in a tweet on Sunday that 70 per cent of the eligible population has received both doses of a Covid-19 vaccine. As the vaccination rate increases, Kuwait is seeing a drop in cases, deaths and hospitalisations.

Kuwait has authorised the vaccine for children in the 1215 age group. With in-person learning in public schools set to resume on October 3 and in private schools on September 26, a health official revealed more than 300,000 students between the ages of 12 and 18 have been vaccinated.

Booster shot

Kuwait’s Ministry of Health said it will also begin administering a third dose to at-risk groups by the end of September. Those eligible are the elderly, patients with organ transplants, cancer and chronic diseases. Although all those eligible will receive an appointment, it is optional.
