UAE approves policy on regulating research
MOHAMMAD: PRINCIPLES OF 50 ROADMAP ON GOVERNANCE
The UAE Cabinet yesterday approved a research governance policy and the setting up of a research and development (R&D) council during a meeting in Abu Dhabi chaired by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
The R&D Council will be chaired by Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The council aims to enhance the UAE’s status as a global hub for science and technology, while the governance policy is a broad range of regulations, principles and standards to enhance ethical and scientific quality of researcg, promote good practices and reduce adverse incidents.
Workplan for Dh24b Nafis programme reviewed
During the meeting, Shaikh Mohammad directed ministers and federal agencies to commit to the 10 principles created as part of the ‘Projects of the 50’ campaign. He said that the principles serve as a roadmap and a strategic pathway for all work teams in the UAE.
The meeting also reviewed the workplan for implementing the Dh24 billion National Emirati Competitiveness Programme called Nafis, which includes 13 projects designed to empower 75,000 Emiratis to take up jobs in the private sector in the next five years. The programme will be managed by the Emirati Talent Competitiveness Council.
Other key decisions
The Cabinet also approved amending the federal law on anti-money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism. It also approved Youth Empowerment Policy to foster practices that support youth across the federal government.
The Cabinet also approved the reshuffling of the Competition Organising Committee.
Top officials yesterday reviewed all safety and security preparations for Expo 2020 Dubai, which begins on October 1 and runs for six months.
The review was led by Shaikh Mansoor Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai’s Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management. The visit came in line with the directives of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, VicePresident and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to ensure the highest levels of safety and protection for exhibitors and visitors at the event.
Route 2020
Shaikh Mansoor, accompanied by members of the Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management, first took the Dubai Metro from the Jebel Ali Station to the Expo 2020 Station, during which he was briefed by Mattar Mohammad Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) on the Dubai Metro Route 2020.
Upon his arrival to Expo 2020 Dubai, Shaikh Mansoor was welcomed by Reem Al Hashemi, Minister of State for International Cooperation and DirectorGeneral of Expo 2020 Dubai. He visited the main operations room to review the safety and security measures that have been developed by different government teams for the venue.
RTA command centre
Shaikh Mansoor said the safety of exhibitors and visitors is a top priority for all concerned authorities, who have set up numerous arrangements to ensure the safest possible environment.
Shaikh Mansoor was briefed by Al Tayer about RTA’s Transport Command and Control Centre, which is part of the main operations room. The centre was set up to ensure a smooth and secure movement to and from the venue. Shaikh Mansoor was also briefed on the various public transport means available for visitors, as well as the precautionary measures implemented to secure the safety of public transport users.
As part of the visit, Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Merri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police and Head of the Expo 2020 Dubai Security Committee, briefed Shaikh Mansoor about the security measures for all upcoming events to be held across the venue.
