Saudi Arabia’s first female barber for boys has become a social media sensation after a video of her cutting the hair of a child went viral.

Famous social media figure Abdul Rahman Al Mutairi shared an interview with the woman named Wafa’ Saqer while she was cutting a boy’s hair. The clip shared on his Snapchat account with the caption: ‘Wafa Saqer, the first Saudi Barber’ got over one million views on Twitter.

According to Wafa, her mother was her biggest supporter. She honed her skills at home for two years, learning different haircuts, including the French style. Her goal is to open a salon that carries her name.

She received a lot of support on social media, with several Twitter users sharing the video. Unfortunately, not all social media users were supportive. Some criticised Wafa, saying that being a barber is a man’s job and slamming the modern lifestyle Saudis have adopted.

Wafa advised youth in her country to go after their dreams saying that “you’ll be successful once you believe in yourself”.
