Germany win second successive World Cup
2006 - Germany won a second successive men’s World Cup in Monchengladbach. Coach Bernhard Peters steered the triumph, his team coming back from two down to beat Olympic champions Australia 4-3 in a thrilling final in front of 12,000 delirious home supporters. The victory means Peters is quitting hockey at the top after six years as Germany coach. He has decided to switch sports and has a new job with regional football team TSG Hoffenheim.
