Recoveries outnumber new cases
Imran Khan’s aide on accountability tests positive
Pakistan’s daily tally of recoveries from Covid-19 continues to outnumber new cases. Yesterday, the country reported 3,164 people recovered from the coronavirus in the last 24 hours compared to 2,580 positive cases reported in the same period. According to the National Command & Operation
Centre (NCOC) Pakistan’s total recoveries from the virus (1.132 million) were only 100,000 behind the total number of infections (1.223 million) and the gap was fast closing with above 92.5 per cent recovery rate.
NCOC data reveals that after 71 casualties in the last 24 hours, the country’s toll due to Covid-19 climbed to 27,206 while the coronavirus positivity rate after 55,027 tests in the last 24 hours remained at 4.64 per cent. Yesterday was the second consecutive day with less than 5 per cent positivity rate. A day earlier (Saturday) it was 4.4 per cent. Similarly, the active cases also declined from 64,564 on Saturday to 63,909 on Sunday.
PM’s aide tests positive
Adviser to the Prime Minister on Interior & Accountability and member of the PTI core committee Mirza Shahzad Akbar has tested positive for Covid-19.
Akbar tweeted, “I have tested covid positive and have isolated myself at home. Plz follow Covid SOPs and stay safe.”
Meanwhile, minister for Planning, Development Asad Umar welcomed the British government’s decision to remove Pakistan from the red list.
