Girl sues father for objecting to marriage

A Bahraini woman reportedly sued her father because he rejected a marriage proposal to her by a man, citing unreasonable grounds.

According to media reports, the Bahraini High Sharia Court accepted the woman’s plea, giving her the freedom to get married without her father’s approval. The woman is said to have made many failed attempts to accept the man’s proposal, prompting her to file a case against her father so she could accept it without his approval, the court heard.

“My client’s father refused to let her marry the person she wanted to tie the knot with for what she deemed unacceptable reasons,” the plaintiff’s lawyer argued.
