Sindh set to ease criteria for medical students

- KARACHI BY AZEEM SAMAR Correspondent

The Sindh government has said that it will take measures to safeguard the future of thousands of students of the province seeking to become doctors and dentists.

In doing so, it has expressed dissatisfaction over the ability of the Islamabad-based Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) to conduct the Medical and Dental Colleges Admission Test (MDCAT).

Speaking at a press conference, the Sindh health minister, Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho, said the PMC this year had unduly increased the minimum pass percentage from 60 per cent to 65 per cent to clear the MDCAT and the decision could mar the future of a large number of students.

She said the Sindh government had been left with no choice but to lower the minimum pass percentage in order to fill all the seats available in medical and dental colleges of the province.
