Woman killed by brothers over inter-caste marriage

Honour killing comes to light after husband files police complaint

In a case of an “honour killing”, four men in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut city allegedly killed their sister for marrying a man from a different caste.

The incident took place on Saturday. The woman’s brothers and cousins allegedly killed the 18-year-old for “maligning” the family name.

The accused took the help of their friends for the crime and the police have booked ten people for murder.

According to the police, the woman had recently informed her family about her relationsh­ip, which enraged her brothers. The family put pressure on her to marry someone else of their choice.

A complaint was filed by the woman’s husband following which a case was registered against the accused.

The complainan­t claimed his wife succumbed to her injuries after being badly beaten, adding the body was hurriedly cremated by her family.

Police said 10 people have been booked under sections relating to murder), causing disappeara­nce of evidence of offence and rioting.
