Man trains gun on workers but loses son

- DAKSHINA KANNADA

The Karnataka Police have arrested a man who accidentally shot his son while opening fire at labourers from his licensed gun in Mangaluru, police sources said yesterday.

The man’s son, Sudheendra, 16, suffered a bullet injury to the head and succumbed to his injuries in hospital early yesterday.

Rajesh Prabhu, an entrepreneur, had aimed his firearm at agitating labourers on Tuesday. He suffered a heart attack following the turn of events and had been admitted to hospital.

Police sources say Prabhu got enraged after two workers demanded their dues and quarrelled with his wife who happened to be at his company.

Prabhu’s wife had called him and Sudheendra to the spot. Prabhu, allegedly lost his cool when the argument broke off and slapped one of the workers. Sudheendra too was arguing with the workers. In the melee, Prabhu opened fire on the workers but the bullet ended up hitting his son, a class 10 student. Mangaluru South police are investigating the case.
