FARMER GROUP ISSUES ‘MARTYRS’ DAY CALL

-

Farmers forum Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) has called upon farmers to attend ‘Antim Ardas’ , a ritual to mark last rites of the dead, on Tuesday at Tikonia in Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh, in view of the violence that took place in the district last Sunday in which eight people including four farmers lost their lives.

SKM, an umbrella body of several farmer unions, said that the day will be celebrated as ‘Shaheed Kisan Diwas’, or martyred farmers day, across the country. SKM also urged farmer groups to organise special prayer meetings or tribute meetings for the farmers who died in the incident at their respective religious places or at public places or agitation sites. It also appealed to citizens to light five candles outside their houses in memory of the deceased farmers.
