Leaving a wartorn country like Iraq and finding a new home is hard on everyone.

However, when

Dr Ali Khayat, 46, an Iraqi specialist in family medicine, left his country and settled in the UAE in 2003, he didn’t think that one day the UAE will reward his duty as a frontliner during the

Covid-19 pandemic. Dr Khayat has become one of the latest recipients of the 10-year UAE Golden Visa.

“It was a proud moment in my life when they [Abu Dhabi government] told me that I was recognised to receive the Golden Visa,” said Khayat. When the pandemic struck the world, Khayat was one of the first doctors called for duty as a frontliner in Abu Dhabi.

Dr Khayat used to stay at the hospital without seeing his family, sometimes for 40 days at a time.
