US nominates envoy to Pakistan after 3-year gap
Donald Blome is a career diplomat with over 25 years in the Foreign Service
US President Joe Biden has nominated Donald Blome as ambassador to Pakistan. The announcement comes after a threeyear hiatus as Washington looks forward to coordinate with Islamabad on the situation in Afghanistan following the withdrawal of American troops in August.
Donald Armin Blome, currently ambassador to Tunisia, is the nominee for Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the White House said.
Donald Blome is a career diplomat who has worked at key positions in the Middle East region for over 2 decades.
Post vacant since 2018
The position of US ambassador to Pakistan remained vacant since August 2018 when ambassador David Hale was posted as Under Secretary for Political Affairs in Washington. After his departure, Paul Jones and Angela Aggeler served as charge d’affaires of the US Embassy in Pakistan.
