Modi to talk food, energy at G20 summit
PM WILL ALSO HOLD MEETINGS WITH WORLD LEADERS AND MEET DIASPORA
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take part in sessions related to food and energy security, health as well as digital transformation in the G20 summit at Bali in Indonesia, Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra said yesterday.
Modi will leave for Bali today on a three-day visit to attend the summit, he said.
US President Joe Biden, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Chinese President Xi Jinping and several other world leaders will attend the G20 summit. Modi will also participate in several bilateral meetings with some world leaders, Kwatra said.
India assumes the presidency of G20 from December 1.
In a special briefing on Sunday, Kwatra said: “As per the current programme, the Bali Summit comprises three working sessions at the leaders level where PM Modi will be participating. These include sessions on food and energy security, digital transmission and health.”
Modi will also be part of the G20 leaders’ visit to the mangrove forest in Bali on November 16, Kwatra said.
India, Indonesia and Brazil would be the G20 Troika during India’s presidency.
“During our G20 presidency, India, Indonesia and Brazil would be the Troika. This is the first time in G20 that this Troika would consist of developing countries and emerging economies in a row,” said Kwatra.
Modi will also interact with members of the Indian community on November 15.
Short, but important visit, envoy to Indonesia says
Talking about Modi’s G20 summit appearance, India’s Ambassador to Indonesia said the visit is short, but very important. “PM Modi’s coming to G20 is important because India is about to take the G20 Presidency from Indonesia,” Manoj Kumar Bharti said.
“The participation of the Prime Minister of India in this summit is also important in such a way that on the day before the appointment, the Prime Minister has launched the logo of our presidency and website, this is a very good opportunity to show our presidency in front of all the leaders of the world. Tell them about the success stories of India,” said the Indian envoy.
The G20 logo launched by PM Modi draws inspiration from the vibrant colours of India’s national flag.
