Emirates: Check in early to avoid rush

Airline is counting on high inbound traffic with Qatar World Cup kicking off tomorrow

Emirates said it is expecting an exponentia­l increase in traffic to and from Dubai. The airline said, in a media statement yesterday, that passengers should make use of the available options of self-check-in kiosks, online check-in and baggage drop facility to ensure a seamless journey given the upcoming travel rush.

The airline is counting on high inbound traffic this month with the Fifa World Cup Qatar 2022 kicking off tomorrow. UAE is expecting a million fans to come through to watch the matches in Doha while staying in one of the emirates. Over 120 ‘match day’ shuttle flights, by Dubai-based budget carrier flydubai and Qatar Airways. will ferry fans to and from Doha daily – in addition to the regular UAE-Qatar flights in operation. also fall on those dates and this is expected to result in a spike in outbound travel for the long weekend. In addition to the seasonal inbound and outbound festive travel leading up to New Year’s Eve celebratio­ns, November and December mark a very busy month for the sector.

Passengers have been advised to get to the airport three hours in advance and use Emirates’ checkin facilities as applicable to avoid queues at the counters. Check-in can be done online via the app or the carrier’s website, and passengers can drop their luggage off up to 24 hours in advance to make their departure easier. The Smart Tunnel and Smart Gates add to the ease of travel by reducing human interventi­on at immigratio­n counters in the airport.

Emirates Airline advised passengers to arrive to the airport 3 hours in advance of their flight and check in remotely when possible ahead of the high traffic expected in Dubai this month.

The airline is highlighti­ng a busy travel period for both inbound and outbound travel through Dubai for the next month. This includes travellers heading to the emirate for the festive season and the additional footfall coming through as part of the Fifa World Cup Qatar 2022, which begins on November 20, and the Emirates Dubai 7s.

Surge in traffic

The UAE is expecting a million visitors during the monthlong FIFA tournament. Emirates Dubai 7s is also set to welcome 5,500 athletes from 32 countries. Along with this, November and December mark a time of peak travel demand owing to several celebratio­ns including UAE National Day and the festive period leading all the way up to the New Year.

Emirates said in a media statement that it is expecting the seasonal super outbound peak for the festive period.
